Nina Parnham is the founder of Mama Wellness – for women who are planning a baby, are pregnant or who have birthed a baby, can come for expert support with Health and Fitness, Postnatal Rehabilitation and Massage Therapies. I provide a holistic experience to wellness throughout one of the most important times of your life, to help you cope on your journey, and be the best version of you.
Nina qualified as a Midwife in 1999 and worked at both Guys and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London, gaining a degree in Midwifery At Kings College, London. Nina worked on the birthing suite, and cared for women with both normal and complex health issues. She was later was posted to the community in the South London area and was present at many homebirths, as well as being ingegrated to the hospital to provide labour care for her caseload of women.
After 4 years in London Nina moved back to Suffolk and spent 8 years working on the Midwife-led ward. She then chose to work in the community midwifery setting, gaining a promotion to Lead Midwife and then a secondment as Community Midwife Manager. Since having her two children, she has opted for a better work life balance and currently keeps her skills up to date by working bank shifts in antenatal clinic and the birthing and postnatal wards.
Nina has experienced pregnancy loss, and problems with conception. When she had her second child, Nina experienced a host of problems, both during pregnancy and postpartum, which prompted her to go deeper into pre-conceptual, pregnancy care and postnatal rehabilitation. Nina completed her family at the age of 39, and has recovered from a pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence issues and diastasis (abdominal separation), using modern research based methods, that she now teaches women.
Nina adds “In my career, as a Midwife, I would often see women who were struggling with varying health issues, either because of a previous pregnancy, or birth. I wanted to provide women with real solutions for their most pressing concerns such as incontinence, pelvic organ prolapses, back and/or pelvic pain and caesarean scar issues. One of the most important strategies women can learn is about ‘core rehabilitation’, and I use a combination of mindfulness, fitness, fat loss and restorative, soft tissue health approaches that for many provide a foundation for deep transformation and empowerment”.
Nina has trained with top education providers in women’s wellness, fitness, nutrition and massage therapies. She continues to add to her provision and has gained qualifications in other methods, such as scar massage, diastasis (abdominal separation) massage and restoration, and Mummy MOT© services. Nina aims to expand her services to offer a complete service to women throughout all life phases from pre-conception to menopause.
Nina is passionate about the care she gives. Women have always been the focus during her career as a midwife. “I have always regarded women to be incredible human beings in everything they are able to do. Women are very resilient individuals. As a mother I can honestly say that the journey to motherhood and beyond is such a life changing event. I respect the experiences women go through and feel privileged to be able to support women during these times. I also understand that women can find the journey to motherhood a difficult time, with 1 in 6 women experiencing difficulties conceiving a baby”. Nina also supports women in their fertility journey, offering a listening service, massage and reflexology therapies and lifestyle guidance.
Nina concludes “I enjoy helping women through their journey to motherhood, it gives me satisfaction to know that women are prioritising their needs, and ensuring they are healthy and not only to be able to look after their family with more ease, but also to give them the understanding and independence to look after their bodies well into their ‘golden’ years”.
I want to transform the way women feel about themselves, so they know and appreciate the worth of self-care. The information they gain about themselves, will be knowledge that lasts women for their lifetime, and this is certainly priceless”.
There are plans to develop the services in 2019, with a change in the name of the business to Suffolk Woman’s Wellness Centre® – SWWC. The four elements that the enterprise will focus and expand on over the coming two years are:
Me Fertility – Therapies and coaching for women who are experiencing challenges with their fertility journey.
Mama Wellness – Purposeful movement classes, Yoga, Workshops, Massage and Therapies, Courses, Pelvic Floor and Core Recovery Programmes, Hypnobirthing and Birth Trauma Counselling.
One You – Movement courses, pelvic health workshops, seminars, support groups and exercise classes for women who are peri/post and in the menopause.
Femme Elements – Support through holistic services including groups, workshops and seminars, therapies and holistic services for women experiencing issues with breast or pelvic cancers, thyroid , digestive, endometriosis, hormonal tinnitus and PCOS.
SWWC plans to open a new centre in January 2020 where we can combine exercise and movement, specialist massage, holistic therapies, nutrition and mindset from the top women’s health practitioners in the area, to provide a centre of excellence, where women can obtain all they need under one roof.
‘There is much misinformation out there about women’s health, and the common perception is that women have to just deal with the issues that they are confronted with’. I feel that all women have a right to health and wellness. There is a real need for women to know that there is support for them to live their life entirely and love the body that they are in’. Nina
Services are based at the Mama Wellness Studio in Ransomes Europark IP3 9FJ, Holiday Inn, London Road IP2 0UA and Washbrook IP8.
